Food for the Hungry

Guatemala
Since 2015, our church family at Commonway has partnered with Food for the Hungry (FH) to walk alongside communities in Central America. What began in Nicaragua and continues today in Guatemala has given us the joy of building relationships with sponsored children, visiting their communities, and standing with the FH teams as they bring hope and lasting change.
Food for the Hungry is a Christian humanitarian aid and global development organization that designs, develops and delivers solutions for more than 50 years so that children, families and communities can flourish. Collaborating with local leaders across sectors, we co-create solutions that build resilience by strengthening mental, physical and spiritual well-being. We serve nearly 10 million people in 18 countries so that communities have the agency and resources necessary to realize their God-given potential.
Child Sponsorship
At the heart of our partnership is child sponsorship—a chance to form meaningful, lasting connections with children and their families in the very communities we visit. Through FH, sponsors and children can share letters, stories, and encouragement. Your financial support not only impacts one child’s life but also helps FH strengthen the health, stability, and hope of the entire community.
Travel to Guatemala
Once or twice a year, a team of 10–12 from Commonway travels to the town of Najquitob (na-key-tobe) in central Guatemala. Whether or not you sponsor a child, these trips offer a unique chance to witness FH’s work firsthand and join in their mission to bring lasting transformation. Our next trips are planned for February and June 2026—come and be part of the story.

February 21-28, 2026

Join us for our next trip to Guatemala. If you’re interested in being part of the team, talk to Steve Gill or Jeremy Neckers. You can also send an email to fh@commonwaychurch.com—we’d love to have you with us.
Support the Work
FH’s work is a long-term commitment—walking with communities for 20 years or more to address mental, physical, and spiritual needs. Along the way, we’ve been able to support specific projects in Nicaragua and now in Guatemala. One example: in La Paz, Nicaragua, we helped fund a water filtration system that now provides clean, reliable water to dozens of homes and the local school—transforming daily life for the entire community.
