Commonway Church

Inviting People to Find
Hope in Jesus

This is a time of celebration! It didn’t seem possible that we would find a building in downtown Muncie with enough space for us now and plenty of room to grow. And there’s ample parking, too.

We believe, though, this is about much more than the building. It’s about people, and it’s about God’s unfailing desire to draw us closer to Him, becoming more and more like Jesus, and seeing lives transformed by His love and grace.

Take a look at the FAQs below for more details.

MORE THAN BRICKS Capital Campaign

Dec. 10, 2017 to Feb. 28, 2019

How is the MORE THAN BRICKS Campaign connected to current giving at Commonway?

MORE THAN BRICKS is an “over and above” commitment. This means that we are challenging 100% of people who attend Commonway to give over and above their normal giving. This will an opportunity to trust God and give sacrificially.

What if I have never given to Commonway before?

If you have never made a financial gift to Commonway, MORE THAN BRICKS is a great place to start. We know this may be a big step and will require great faith. We are here to pray with you and resource you in any way we can.

How long is my commitment?

MORE THAN BRICKS is a 15-month campaign beginning in December 2017 and ending in February 2019. You are welcome to give weekly, monthly, yearly, or a one- time gift.

I am new to Commonway. What is this all about?

Commonway Church has been meeting at the Horizon Center in downtown Muncie since July of 2011. As good as that has been, the leadership at Commonway has known this would not be viable long-term. After much prayer and searching, we believe God is asking us to make a move (and we couldn’t be more excited).

What is the total cost of renovations?

The total cost of renovations will be $500,000.

Is the goal to raise the entire amount or will we finance?

Since we anticipated early on that a building would be in our future, the Elder Board has accrued a building fund of $200,000. This leaves $300,000 still needed to complete the project.

How long will construction take?

Our hope is to be in the new building by April 2018, with all interior construction complete. As we know, construction timelines and details have a way of changing unexpectedly, but we will keep the church updated as changes occur.

Where is the new building?

The new building is right around the corner from the Horizon Convention Center at 201 E. Charles St. in downtown Muncie. For the past 20 years, the building was primarily occupied by WorkOne. If you’ve been around Muncie for a while, you’ll remember this building as the original JCPenny.

Are we buying the building?

No, not yet. We are signing a 5-year lease, but we will have the option to buy down the road. In our current situation, we rent office space at the Innovation Connector and youth space at the Living Room. We also lease month-by-month at the Horizon Convention Center. Among other positives, this move brings long-term stability with the continued benefit of a fixed facility expense.

Where will we park?

Parking is plentiful. There is a small lot just east of the building. Across the street to the north, we have access to the parking lot at Mutual Bank. Spaces are available along Charles St. as well.

What is the square footage of the auditorium?

The auditorium is just over 6,000 sq. ft. On a typical Sunday morning, we will have around 500 chairs, but the room can comfortably hold 600.

Will there be new space for my children?

Absolutely! This is where things get really exciting. On the Lower Level of the building, Commonway Kids will have nearly 7,000 sq. ft. of permanent space. This includes a large gathering room for elementary kids, classrooms for elementary small groups and pre-school, and nursery. (Did we mention this is PERMANENT SPACE?)

Will there be space for teenagers?

Yep! The youth get their own room of nearly 2,000 sq. ft. This is a great space overall but especially for Sunday evening youth group.

What about small groups and other activities?

On the main floor there is a large multi-purpose room similar in size to the glassed- in meeting space at the Innovation Connector. This gives us a distinctive space for smaller gatherings throughout the week. It will be equipped with a small sound system, a projector, and a screen.

What about College students?

They get the whole building! Actually, that’s only partially true, but whatever space they need, it’s there for their use.

Will there be coffee?

Of course! Coffee and tea will be readily available each and every Sunday morning. We couldn’t imagine it any other way.
